Author Interview III : Jukebox and the Silver Screen

Another author interview. This one is about my intention to make Jukebox into a feature film and where I'm at in the process.

Author Interview :: Inspiration Behind Jukebox

My first author interview has been uploaded to YouTube.  Check it out!  More to follow...

Jukebox Lemonade Stand

So, as the leaves fall off the trees, I'm sitting by the fire trying to get organized around marketing this little novel, Jukebox.  Although I'll have some help from my publisher, Bella Books, I've been reading up on book marketing strategies and, to be honest, it all seems quite daunting.  I keep reminding myself--small bites, one day at a time.

I've at least come up with task #1: Author Interviews

Today and tomorrow, I'm going to start by sitting down for them.  In the interviews, I'll talk about where the idea for Jukebox came from, how I wrote it, who the characters are, what my plans are for the film, and weird quirks about me and my writing rituals (there are plenty of those--in fact, I'm doing the splits while I type right now).

If you've got any ideas--besides by brilliant Lemonade/Jukebox Stand--send them my way.  If only it weren't fall and I didn't live in the Pacific Northwest.  Maybe I'll do a Hot Chocolate/Jukebox stand?

Jukebox Arrived!

Copies of "Jukebox" on my shelf.
The impending movie poster in the background.
I've been waiting for this day for almost ten years.   My author copies of my debut novel, Jukebox, have arrived from the publisher.

When I heard the doorbell ring, I knew what it was. I looked at my partner and said, "Oh my god, my novel is ringing the doorbell."

Sure enough.  There was a postman standing with a heavy box from Bella Books.  I may have squealed a little bit, certainly cried some and possibly did a cartwheel through the foyer after I shut the door.

Needless to say, I AM VERY EXCITED!!!

I hope you all are, too.  To the public, it will be released on November 16, but you can pre-order your copy today!

Audio Book

Jukebox will be on bookshelves from here in Canada to the US to the UK, but it will also be in CD decks, computers and  iPods...

That's right, Bella Books is releasing an audiobook of Jukebox and yours truly gets to be the reader!

So, if reading isn't your thing, how about I do it for you and you can simply upload Jukebox to your iPod and take me on that killer road trip you're planning?  Just got back from a trip?  How about taking me on your morning runs?  On your lunch breaks?  On your commutes to work?

I've never done anything like this, but I'm stoked to give it a whirl.  I've looked into recording studios here in Vancouver, but am toying with having our BFF extraordinaire Mick help me set up a temporary home studio in the basement.

I'm also trying to find advice online about being an audiobook reader.

Will I read too fast?

Will I sound too monotone and put people to sleep--Bueller?

Any advice out there?
